Capital Markets: FiberTower posts improved financials

FiberTower Corp. reported revenues of $16.7 million for the fourth quarter, up from revenues of $14.3 million for the same period in 2008. Net loss for the quarter was $27.8 million, or $1.53 per share, compared with net loss of $62.7 million, or $4.16 per share, for the fourth quarter of 2008.
Summit Partners and Nokia Growth Partners participated in a $23 million funding round into Cloudmark Inc., which provides carrier-grade messaging security solutions. Existing investors Ignition Partners and Industry Ventures also participated in the round. The funding was used by Cloudmark to acquire Bizanga Ltd.
PCTel Inc. reported fourth-quarter revenues of $14.8 million, down 19% from revenues of $18.3 million during the same period in 2008. Net loss was $572,000, or 3 cents per share, for the quarter, compared with net loss of $10.8 million, or 61 cents per share, for the fourth quarter of 2008.
Texas Instruments Inc. provided a scheduled update on it business outlook for the first quarter. The company said it expects to report revenues between $3.07 billion and $3.19 billion, compared with its previous guidance of $2.95 billion to $3.19 billion. Earnings per share is expected to be between 48 cents and 52 cents, rather than 44 cents to 52 cents.
USA Mobility Inc. said its board of directors approved a third extension of the company’s previously announced share repurchase program from March 31, 2010, to Dec. 31, 2010. The board also reset the amount available for purchase to $25 million from $20.3 million. The company originally began the share repurchase program in August 2008 with plans to buy back up to $50 million in common stock. To date, the company has repurchased $42.9 million of its common stock at an average price of $8.82 per share.
