I think Nokia's purchase of Symbian is a big story that underscores the threat that Android poses to all proprietary OS. Nokia is now trying to go "open source" with Symbian, an OS that already has 75% or so of the WW mobile phone market.

One story that is not on your list is the Obama Mobile Campaign. In my mind, that will change the face of politics forever....

I think the biggest story for 2008 was the delivery of the source code for Android. Something that was promised, and delivered on time.

I think we can also add the rumored Verizon text message hike to this list. It caused waves throughout the industry for quite a few weeks.

Is it possible that one of the bigger stories is one that’s not on your list ? I speak of the rumblings from those who believe that the spectrum auctions were wrong, and that spectrum is a precious and finite commodity and should be held in reserve. After all it is us, the technology community, that hold the future in our hands, and only we can dream of what those frequency’s can and will be used for in the future. Should we be holding some spectrum in reserve ?
