Omar Hamoui, CEO and Founder of AdMob, is one of RCR Wireless News' Mobile Movers & Shakers for 2008.

Welcome to our inaugural special report on Mobile Movers and Shakers for 2008. In this report, RCR Wireless News recognizes just some of the people who have been or hope to be instrumental in shaping the industry, leading it into new areas and creating for it fresh opportunities.

In four parts, we'll list the 20 people who are watched by competitors and colleagues alike for hints on how wireless will unfold. Click here for yesterday's list.

However, this list is by no means exhaustive, either in terms of nominees or categories. It leaves out many worthy candidates, a point that we want to acknowledge upfront. In fact, we received more than 400 nominations from readers.

It also isn’t a list of “winners.” Some of the companies represented herein have yet to experience financial or critical success.

Indeed, this list is just a starting point — for us and, we hope, for you. So please enjoy our first attempt at assembling a linear list out of this messy, chaotic and topsy-turvy industry, even as we begin to take a closer look at some of the people who likely will be next year’s movers and shakers.

Stay tuned for our next batch of Mobile Movers & Shakers 2008, which will post first thing tomorrow. — Tracy Ford, Editor and Associate Publisher

Steve Jobs was RCR Wireless News' Person of the Year for 2007. Having said that, we certainly will be the first to say this list is not perfect nor complete.

I very much appreciate RCR's attempt to create a compilation "as we begin to take a closer look at some of the people who likely will be next year’s movers and shakers." While the early initiators of so much we ascribe to (from Steve Jobs to Laura Marriott and many others) remain undeniable forces in our industry, they are the known and the acknowledged giants who already exist. In the spirit of bringing us "News" RCR is doing a great job of identifying new players whose stars are in the ascendant and not just a movie-media style listing of all those we already know.

This is hardly a good list of Mobile Movers and Shakers. Where is Steve Jobs or Apple or Laura Marriott for that matter. She is someone who has done more for the mobile marketing industry than anyone else alive. Disappointing.
