Transport sector to lead mobile ticketing

November 7 2008 - 5:59 am ET | RCR Wireless News

More than 400 million mobile users will use their phones for ticketing services by 2013, according to a new report from Juniper Research.

The market is facing a variety of near-term challenges, including bar code reading issues, lack of reader infrastructure and limited availability of Near Field Communications handsets. These challenges are hindering deployment of full mobile ticketing services, said the firm.

According to the report, transport will be the leading sector for mobile ticketing, followed by entertainment and sporting events. The Far East and China will lead the market, driven in large part by Japanese rail travelers, said Juniper.
