Infrastructure awards wrap-up: Alvarion, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nortel and more

The following list details this week's infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular

--Italy: Telecom Italia has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks as one of its main suppliers in the modernization of its 3G network.

WiMAX

--Denmark: Alvarion announced that ELRO is expanding its nationwide mobile WiMAX network in the country with equipment from Alvarion and ECI Telecom.

--United States: FairPoint has chosen Nortel Networks to provide WiMAX network equipment for a high-speed Internet offering in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

Miscellaneous

--Bulgaria: Vivatel chose Nokia Siemens Networks to provide its IP Multimedia Subsystem platform and mobile VoIP application server for a converged services offering.

--India: Tata Teleservices awarded a contract to Ceragon Networks to provide microwave backhaul equipment.
