T-Mobile USA's G1 will go for $148.88 at Wal-Mart.
Google Inc. wants to bring mobile Internet to the masses. That's the philosophy behind its launching Android, its mobile-operating system. Creating a mobile OS that's simple, efficient and a great user experience full of useful applications will mean more people hooked to the web more of the time — and more opportunities for Google to serve ads to the always-connected. Now, it may have an unlikely partner in its quest: Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart is teaming up with T-Mobile USA Inc. to sell the G1, the first phone equipped with Google's Android mobile operating system, for $148.88 -- $31.11 off what the carrier is charging for the device.
The device will be available Nov. 24 at 550 Wal-Mart stores.
