Nokia Siemens pleased with W-CDMA deployments

Nokia Siemens Networks is reporting it has surpassed its 2007 performance in shipment of W-CDMA/HSPA networks in the first nine months of this year.
The company said today that it supplies high-speed mobile broadband networks to more than half of the world’s 260 million W-CDMA/HSPA subscribers. The company delivers to 18 of the 25 biggest 3G operators in the world and has more than 130, paying, radio network customers worldwide.
“Nokia Siemens Networks radio access business is driven by the strong ambition to become the undisputed No. 1 radio access vendor,” Marc Rouanne, head of NSN’s Radio Access business, said in a statement. “Our customers are hungry to provide the most reliable and satisfying 3G user experience, while spending less on the energy required to power their networks.”
The company also is reporting strong sales in its 2G, GSM/EDGE deployments with more than 200,000 GSM transceiver units shipped in July alone.
The company said its success is due to its energy efficient Flexi Base Station, which is designed in a way to reduce its environmental impact and 90% of its material can be recycled. The company is continuing to look at ways to further reduce energy consumption by its radio products. By 2011, the company has a goal of powering the majority of its base stations in remote areas with renewable energy such as wind and solar.
