Samsung touchscreen lands at AT&T Mobility

October 21 2008 - 1:41 pm ET | Phil Carson | RCR Wireless News

AT&T Mobility announced a new touchscreen smartphone from Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., dubbed the Epix.

The device will cost $200 with a two-year contract, positioning it as an option for those considering similarly priced devices at the carrier, which include the iPhone 3G, Razr2 v9x, BlackBerry Pearl 8120, AT&T Tilt, Palm Treo 750 and the Moto Z9.

The Epix runs on Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and offers an HSPA connection, with EDGE compatibility.

The slab-style device features a QWERTY keypad, a touchscreen and a “mouse,” a smooth surface for directional touch akin to many laptops. The “mouse” can be placed in four-way navigation mode. The touchscreen can be operated with a finger or a built-in stylus.

Features include Wi-Fi (for AT&T Mobility’s 17,000 hotspots nationwide), assisted-GPS (for AT&T Navigator), AT&T Video Share (live video with live voice call) and a 2.0 megapixel camera. The device offers an array of e-mail capabilities.
