Google launches mobile election site

August 25 2008 - 12:33 pm ET | Colin Gibbs | RCR Wireless News

Google Inc. launched a mobile microsite dedicated to following the race for the White House.

The destination, m.google.com/elections, offers links to election-related news; mobile YouTube channels from both Barack Obama and John McCain; information about the sites read by the candidates and political journalists; and maps of Denver (site of this week’s Democratic National Convention) and Minneapolis (where next week’s Republican National Convention will be held). The site also features links to search results for both candidates, eliminating the need to type in names for every search.

The site was unveiled early Saturday, within minutes of Obama’s text and e-mail campaign informing supporters that Sen. Joe Biden was chosen as his running mate.
