SiGe attracts $19.5M in VC funding

METHUEN, Mass.—SiGe Semiconductor raised $19.5 million in an expansion round of financing led by venture-capital and private-equity firms, the company announced.

SiGe Semiconductor makes radio frequency modules that are integrated into GSM-, GPRS- and EDGE-enabled mobile handsets, Bluetooth-enabled devices, GPS and telematics systems, WiMAX equipment and 802.11a/b/g/n wireless local area network equipment.

TD Capital, Prism Venture Partners, VenGrowth Private Equity Partners and 3i Technology Partners led the round of financing and were joined by previous investors, including Hunt Ventures, RWI Group, GrowthWorks and Vista Ventures.

Jim Derbyshire, chief executive officer and chairman of SiGe Semiconductor, said that the new funding would help the company bring new products to market in the cellular, WiMAX and GPS markets, as well as scaling the company’s operations to meet demand.

Among SiGe Semiconductors’ customers and partners are Broadcom Corp., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and Garmin Ltd.
