BEIJING-Northern Telecom Inc. said it won a contract, valued at about $61 million, to expand Hebei Post and Telecommunications Authority’s Global System for Mobile communications network into five more cities.

Nortel, which also supplied the initial three phases, will provide a turnkey solution for expanding the digital cellular network into Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Hengshui, Xingtai and Handan. When the expansion is complete-expected during the third quarter-network capacity will increase to more than 600,000 subscribers, Nortel said.
