InTouch launches in-vehicle product to compete with OnStar

TORONTO-InTouch motion Inc. launched a new wireless in-vehicle product the company said will compete with telematics heavyweight OnStar’s service offerings.

InTouch said its new product will support phone services, one-touch emergency, two-way voice communications and GPS capabilities, as well as a variety of high-end media products. The company said users will be able to access news, traffic, e-mail and weather, as well as connect to the Internet through laptops or personal digital assistants.

“We are entering an era where online communication and content services are available within a moving vehicle,” said Peer Dischleit, InTouch chief executive officer. “We believe that not only are we capable of more functionality than OnStar is currently offering, but our entry-level security and emergency package at about $16 per month, which includes InTouch | motion’s media and communication solutions, is not only affordable and flexible but offers unprecedented functionality for all vehicles.”

The company plans to sell the product through retail channels as well as original equipment manufacturers.
