ZTE unveils 5G fronthaul outdoor optical transportation product

The Chinese vendor said the new product supports 200G bandwidth

ZTE has unveiled what it claims is the industry’s first 5G fronthaul 200G outdoor optical transport network product.

The Chinese vendor said that the ZXMP M721 OD62 is easy to install and maintain and can be applied to the metro edge layer. The ZXMP M721 OD62 supports 200G bandwidth and employs the Flex-O technology to restrict the end-to-end latency within 1 microsecond.

The new product also supports various service access types, including SDH, Ethernet, the Common Public Radio Interface and eCPRI to meet the requirements of diversescenarios, the company said. In addition, ZTE said the solution supports Wi-Fi debugging and can automatically implement fast service provisioning, to simplify operation and maintenance.

ZTE said that the ZXMP M721 OD62 addresses mobile fronthaul networks’  transport needs in the aspects of service access, transport performance, maintenance and management, reliable operation, energy saving and emission reduction.

To date, ZTE said it has deployed more than 400 optical networks across the globe.

According to Wang Xiyu, CTO at ZTE, the vendor is focusing on end-to-end 5G solutions and has developed a full range of products, solutions, and services that cover five key areas, including 5G devices, Radio Access Network, bearer network, core network and vertical applications.

“ZTE has been developing technologies that are essential to 5G. These technologies include Massive MIMO, NFV, end-to-end slicing, edge computing, AI, and cloud-network convergence. We have launched commercial end-to-end 5G product portfolios for all bands and scenarios,” the executive said.

“In the area of RAN, ZTE has been leading in Massive MIMO technologies. We have over four years of experience in commercial deployments, with an accumulative number of shipments of over 10,000 sets.  In the area of 5G transport networks, ZTE was the first to offer a unified solution for 5G fronthaul, mid-haul, and backhaul. It is leading the industry in FWA, ultra-wide pipe, elastic network slicing, lowest latency, ultra-high reliability, and high-precision time synchronization. This solution helps customers build super-fast, intelligent, and converged 5G transport networks,” he added.

Wang also highlighted that 5G will enable “unlimited potential” in new services like virtual and augmented reality, in new markets and applications like the internet of everything and the industrial internet, and in new business models.

“ZTE has been working with operators and partners to demonstrate how 5G will empower traditional industries in vertical markets like new media, IoT, Internet of Vehicles, industrial Internet, smart grids, and smart cities,” said Wang. “The demonstrations have shown the new capabilities of 5G. As commercial 5G networks are deployed, more innovative companies will leverage 5G networks to develop new services and models to meet the requirements of different industries.”
