Parallel Wireless enables public safety to instantly ‘Bring Your Own Coverage’

Bring Your Own Coverage (BYOC) from Parallel Wireless creates instant easy to deploy coverage in areas where it is non-existent (tunnels, parking garage, etc.) or compromised

With FirstNet and ESN initiatives, many countries are looking into rolling out a nationwide public safety broadband network. In order to provide coverage across an entire country, the goal for these public safety initiatives might make more sense to be “coverage to every first responder”, rather than “to every square inch”. The only way to accomplish this is with a resilient mobile/deployable solution. However, traditional COWs (Cell on Wheels) require specialized vehicles with specialized equipment. If an emergency organization doesn’t own a deployable, then it might take hours for the deployable to get to the emergency scene.

Parallel Wireless has a plug-n-play deployable solution known simply as “Bring Your Own Coverage (BYOC)”. BYOC takes a small form factor base station that uses low power consumption and flexible backhaul and enables easy and instant deployment via self-configuration capabilities of Parallel Wireless’ HetNet Gateway (HNG). With BYOC, emergency services personnel have the ability to use their day-to-day equipment as a deployable. Traditional COWs also have to be set up and configured by a professional; but with BYOC, the network is configured and optimized by the HetNet Gateway without any human intervention. Benefits of this solution are:

  • Small form factor – can easily fit in a backpack or trunk of a car
  • Low power consumption – enables the use of vehicle power or portable battery for man-portable
  • Instant configuration via HNG – faster and easier deployments
  • Flexible backhaul (including wireless mesh) – deployment flexibility and allows for the use more cost-effective backhaul options
  • Self-optimizing and self-healing via HNG – less hands-on maintenance, more efficient resource utilization, and added network resilience
