HKT to deploy submarine cable system in Hong Kong

The Ultra Express Link submarine cable is set to be operational next year.

Hong Kong telecom firm HKT revealed plans to deploy the Ultra Express Link, a high-capacity fiber optic submarine cable connecting Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate and Chai Wan, both in the Hong Kong area.

The telco said the Ultra Express Link is a 3 kilometer submarine cable system, which is expected to be ready for service next year. HKT said the new deployment is set to support TKOIE’s plans to become Asia’s data center hub.

“The new cable, together with the existing extensive fiber infrastructure provided by HKT, will allow us to meet the rising demand for high-speed and high-capacity connectivity requirement from data center operators,” said Alex Arena, HKT’s managing director. “HKT is the only operator to provide full diversity with different options of cable route across Hong Kong. We have full fiber coverage in all data centers in Hong Kong, particularly with diversity paths in all data centers in TKOIE.”

The telco offers quad play services for both residential and enterprise customers.

Telin opens third data center facility in Singapore

In more news out of the APAC region, Telin Singapore, a subsidiary of Indonesian telecommunications operator PT Telkom, launched its third data center facility in Singapore.

The Telin-3 data center is a 20,000-square-meter facility located at the Singapore Data Centre Park in Jurong.

“Telin-3 is also a carrier neutral data center where Telkom Group submarine cable systems are seamlessly connected via our Telin Singapore’s domestic fiber network. This well connected network infrastructure will position Telin-3 as a telecommunication hub as well as the gateway to Indonesia and to the rest of the world,” said Telin Singapore CEO Septika Widyasrini.
