Latest J.D. Power survey found Verizon easily outpacing Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile in nationwide network performance; only tripped up by U.S. Cellular
Score it as two for two for Verizon Wireless this week, as the carrier snared the top spot in another report ranking nationwide network performance.
The latest toast comes from J.D. Power, which, taking into account wireless customer surveys, ranked the carrier highest across five of its six regions as part of its “2016 U.S. Wireless Network Quality Performance Study – Volume 2.” Those included the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Southwest and West.
Regional carrier U.S. Cellular prevented the Verizon Wireless sweep, taking the top spot in its home North Central region, which is also the only region it was included in the ranking. Verizon Wireless did manage a close second in the region.
Beyond Verizon Wireless’ dominating results, rival nationwide carriers were all over the board.
Sprint appeared to be the closest to a No. 2 in the survey, with second place showings in the Northeast, Southeast, Southwest and West regions; tied for second in the Mid-Atlantic; and in third place in the North Central region.
AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile US struggled in the J.D. Power survey, with AT&T Mobility tied for second in the Mid-Atlantic; third in the Southeast and Southwest; fourth in the North Central; and last in the West and Northeast. T-Mobile US ranked third in the Northeast and West; and last across the Southwest, North Central, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
J.D. Power said the ranking was based on responses from 43,300 wireless customers through the first half of this year. Customers were questioned on “10 problem areas of the customer experience,” including dropped calls; calls not connected; audio issues; failed/late voicemails; lost calls; text transmission failures; late text message notifications; web/app connection errors; slow downloads/apps; and email connection errors.
Verizon Wireless earlier this week came out on top in RootMetrics latest network performance testing, which was also conducted through the first half of the year. The carrier topped all five separate testing parameters, as well as the overall ranking, to easily outpace AT&T Mobility, Sprint and T-Mobile US, respectively.
