LTE-A set to bring 375 Mbps speeds to more cities in Germany

Vodafone Germany announced plans to roll out LTE-Advanced technology by the end of this year to around 50 cities across the country, supporting network speeds of up to 375 megabits per second. The telco said it has invested approximately $5.6 billion over the last two years to modernize and expand its network infrastructure nationwide, including in high-traffic locations such as stadiums, shopping malls, train stations, airports, highways and along rail lines.
Vodafone Germany’s current LTE network supports maximum network speeds up to 225 megabits per second covering 87% of the German population. The telco counts approximately 7.7 million LTE customers.

Taiwanese telco APT launches VoLTE technology

In other international carrier news, DigiTimes reported that Taiwanese telco Asia-Pacific Telecom has launched voice-over-LTE services. The operator is also said to have reached 1 million LTE subscribers, having initially launched commercial LTE services in late 2014.
APT plans to deploy VoLTE services with the support of 10 smartphone models from six vendors. VoLTE services are already available in Taiwan from operators Taiwan Mobile and Ambit.
APT also agreed to act as a Taiwan sales agent for the robot jointly developed by Japanese operator SoftBank and major APT shareholder Foxconn Electronics. APT plans to initially market the Pepper robot in the corporate segment, according to the report.
