T-Mobile and Sprint crank promo activity tied to iPhone SE launch

T-Mobile and Sprint have their latest promotions in place tied to this week’s launch of the Apple iPhone SE model

Apple’s latest iPhone SE model may not garner the typical headlines of a halo product launch from the smartphone giant, but the device’s price point has wireless carriers turning up their promotional activity surrounding this week’s launch.

T-Mobile US said beginning March 31, customers purchasing a new iPhone will be able to pick up a second model of equal or lesser value for half off. The deal includes the latest iPhone SE, as well as the 6s, 6s Plus, 6, 6 Plus, 5s and 5c. The discount does require customers to sign up for a new line of service, with the price reduction in the form of a rebate card.

Sprint said its iPhone SE promotion includes a 24-month installment plan priced at $16.67 per month for the base 16 GB model; customers can pay the full $400 retail price; or get the device for free with a two-year contract. Sprint last month brought back the two-year contract option after having ditched the program earlier in the year.

Sprint is also touting its iPhone Forever program, which when tied to the basic iPhone 6s model results in a monthly payment of $13.17. The iPhone 6s promotion was recently announced and does require customers to trade in their current smartphone.

Sprint last week launched a 30-day “satisfaction guarantee” to customers that includes an offer to refund device and service charges, which Sprint claims is “the industry’s best consumer satisfaction guarantee.” The carrier had previously offered the industry standard 14-day money back guarantee that only included the price of the device.

The latest iPhone SE model continues to bolster the network expansion plans for both T-Mobile US and Sprint. The device, which is basically an iPhone 6s in a smaller package, includes support for LTE band classes 41 and 12, which are central to Sprint’s boasting of higher data speeds and T-Mobile US’ push for greater network coverage.
