The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has reported that there are more than 250,000 veterans exiting the military every year. Warriors 4 Wireless was created by Kelley Dunne, with industry and White House support, to help provide veterans with the transition, training, certification and placement assistance required to meet the wireless industry demand for 8,000-10,000 open positions that need to be filled in the next 18-36 months to keep pace with industrywide expansions and upgrades.

On this episode of Inside Telecom Careers, host Karla Macias is joined by Dunne, CEO of Warriors 4 Wireless, Warriors 4 Wireless Veteran Alumni  Lucas Shingleton and RCR Wireless News’ Editorial Director Jeff Mucci. Dunne discusses how Warriors 4 Wireless is providing veterans with a road map for career advancement, training and certification in the wireless industry.

Dunne gives insight into his background, while highlighting some of the events, people and training that impacted his career. Dunne also explains the story behind Warriors 4 Wireless, key milestones that the group has accomplished and what we can expect from Warriors 4 Wireless in the next 12-18 months.

Recently, during a PCIA wireless workforce panel, Dunne mentioned how Warriors 4 Wireless provides career road maps for veterans and, on this episode, Dunne further explains the status of training and certification programs mentioned on its website. Dunne also talks about working with other organizations such as TIRAP, Aiken Community College and NATE.

Shingleton is a military veteran, who graduated from the Wireless 4 Warriors program. Shingleton explains some of the challenges he and other vets face when transitioning from the military to the civilian workforce. Warriors 4 Wireless had a huge impact on Shingleton and he shares his experience with the program and the tools they gave him to graduate and transition into the wireless industry. Singleton describes how skills from his military training are similar to those used in the workforce.

Mucci gives an update on what is new in the telecom workforce-related news and also shares his experience with hiring veterans and industry veteran programs.
