Coders – Episode 16: Outsourcing Code

In this episode of Coders I’m talking to a freelance developer, Doug McCaughan, about outsourcing development work. Doug has worked both as a contractor and with contractors, locally and overseas and shares his experience with both ends.

If you’re looking for specific tools, we also discuss some specific resources for managing distributed teams. As Doug points out, no one tool is perfect so its best to find what works best for each project. Similarly, in the question of SCRUM vs. waterfall, it can largely depend on the corporate culture of your client.

I hope you find this useful as you consider hiring developers to complete your projects, or if you’re a developer looking for work, there’s some food for thought here. Next week we’ll take a holiday break but we’ll be back the week after to talk API’s.
