Partnership with UhuruOne in Tanzania brings citywide Wi-Fi service

Austin, Texas-based Alepo, which specializes in software solutions for communications service providers, was on hand for the grand opening of the RCRatx Studio lounge to discuss a recent deployment in Tanzania.

Derrick Gross, director of business development for Alepo, detailed the partnership between Alepo and Tanzanian CSP UhuruOne.

UhuruOne deployed an end-to-end Alepo solution that includes real-time Wi-Fi charging and policy control, prepaid voucher management and partner management, among other services.

“Alepo is the policy and billing solution for UhuruOne,” Gross told RCR Wireless News. “They wanted more of a carrier class solution and that’s something we could come in and provide for them.”

UhuruOne CEO Mihayo Wilmore said his company has “the utmost confidence in Alepo as a technology provider with proven expertise and solutions needed to deliver scalable Wi-Fi infrastructure that drives revenue and business success.”

UhuruOne emphasized the partnership as built around Alepo’s expertise in scalability and high-performance Wi-Fi management; the Wi-Fi service is available in corporate offices, hotels, shopping malls, university and residential areas.

“We’re seeing this all over the world,” Gross said. “These operators [are] trying to figure out, ‘How do I monetize these data networks?’ The users in these markets really want something special and there’s so much competition. … The operators feel like by having different types of promotions and plans that they can help grow their revenue or reduce their costs. Same thing with congestion charging. They can look at their network analytics, see what areas of the city are congested, and they can change the pricing based on that to help alleviate the network congestion that they’re seeing.”

Dan Stern, Alepo’s VP of sales, said the company focus is “building innovative solutions that can help Internet service providers monetize their Wi-Fi networks by launching multiple, profitable offerings: single-use prepaid service, bundled subscriptions for existing broadband customers, Wi-Fi offload and more.”
