Verizon Galaxy S6 release date hits snag

Verizon may push Galaxy S6 release date

Verizon Wireless’ release of the Samsung Galaxy S6 has hit a bit of a snag ahead of its scheduled April 10 release date. It appears that many customers might have to wait until May to get their new smartphones.

In March, Verizon Wireless was the first to announce a concrete preorder date for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

The issue is with the gold Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge models. All six of the gold Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge models have had their availability dates pushed back into May. Release dates range from May 1 for the 64 GB S6 and S6 Edge, to May 17 for the 128 GB versions of the two devices, but the 32 GB versions of both phones will be available May 8.

Verizon Wireless isn’t the only major carrier that may face issues with the gold Samsung devices. AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile US say the gold S6 models are “coming soon.” AT&T Mobility customers who have already received the devices have reported issues with dead devices upon arrival. The company said that is due to a boxing issue that turns the device on during shipping, which causes the battery to die.

There are no reports of delays for the standard black and white versions of the devices.

The latest Galaxy devices are significant models for Samsung, which is looking to rebound from relatively disappointing sales of its previous Galaxy S5 models. Mobile operators are also getting behind the devices, with T-Mobile US offering a free year of Netflix, while Sprint said it will offer the device for free through its leasing program.
