EMEA: Napatech works toward quality of VoLTE

Napatech focuses on addressing network management and security challenges caused by nonstop growth in mobile data traffic and the implications to cloud computing, mobility and big data analysis. As LTE becomes more widely deployed, security over the IP infrastructure drives more focus on this topic. SDN and NFV technologies also play into the mix as they move beyond traditional voice and data services into VoLTE.

Today’s Ethernet is different. Network appliances are used to monitor this traffic – a new development during the last few years. Now VoLTE is coming online in many operator networks and needs to have an adequate level of quality from the start; not just performance quality, but security and the ability to properly test and measure performance. If users try VoLTE and has a disappointing experience, it’s likely they won’t want to continue with that option. Most users today think of voice over IP solutions in the context of Skype or FaceTime, but they are free. So if the quality isn’t always great or the call drops from time to time, oh well it’s annoying but it’s free. Now enter paid VoLTE services and the expectation is that it works like today’s paid cellular services, but if it more closely aligns with one of the free services it won’t be acceptable to end users.

Napatech can help operators simulate network performance under various load conditions prior to deployment. Network behavior simulation tools utilize accelerators to generate data traffic speeds over 100 Gigabits in order to emulate subscribers and measure performance under varying conditions. Real-time network management of Ethernet/IP networks lets operators monitor the status of data packets on these networks and address any issues as they are identified. Data is also tracked so activities can be reviewed in a historical fashion to plan for future requirements.

Quality of experience is on everyone’s mind and is a topic most industry professionals promote on a regular basis. In order to analyze the experience end users are having, Napatech relies on its deep packet capture technology. Partnering with DPI vendors such as Ipoque, Procera and Qosmos, 3G and LTE network information can be extracted via tunneling protocols.

Faster networks require faster data. Managing the customer experience in real-time is only part of the equation, being able to track 100% of data traffic at speeds as high as 100 gigabits allows for business intelligence gathering to drive revenue and service optimization.
