#SXSW: Mophie teams up with St. Bernards

Mophie will dispatch rescue dog equipped with charging station

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Bernards’ history of bringing brandy to trapped mountaineers is getting a modern twist with device-maker Mophie; South by Southwest partiers who find themselves low on juice could get rescued by a pup equipped with a charging station – a Mophie phone case that can charge a phone in short order.

To take advantage of the service, attendees of SXSW need only take a screen shot of their dying phone then tweet the picture to @mophie with the hashtag #mophierescue.

Mophie staffers and the St. Bernards, courtesy of the National St. Bernard Foundation, roamed downtown Austin helping out conference attendees.

Mophie VP of Marketing Ross Howe said that “saving the batteries of attendees’ mobile devices has become our reputation during the week in Austin.”

“This year, we tossed in a new element and partnered with the National St. Bernard Foundation for some added assistance to our rescue efforts, while also making the adoption of these lovable dogs easy,” Howe said. “The idea is, Mophie and the St. Bernards save the people of SXSW. The people of SXSW save the St. Bernards.”

If your tweet for help is accepted, Mophie will tweet back with a public reply and a link to an interactive map, powered by Glympse, which tracks the real-time location of the rescue dog. Some lucky Twitter users will also receive Mophie products and a photo op.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Mophie to help raise awareness and hopefully find safe and loving homes for these dogs,” said Olive Ashwell, St. Bernard Rescue Foundation’s marketing manager.

“There’s a shared sense of passion between both our organizations as this amazing partnership launches at SXSW,” she said.

Mophie also has a “rescue lodge” set up at the corner of 5th and Trinity streets, a block away from the Austin Convention Center.
