Carrier Wrap: AT&T increases dividend; Boost makes Data Boost plan permanent

AT&T announced that its board of directors has approved a 2.2% increase in the company’s quarterly dividend, which means a quarterly increase from 46 cents to 47 cents per share, and an annual increase from $1.84 to $1.88 per share.

The dividend is set to be paid on Feb. 2 to stockholders of record on Jan. 9.

• Sprint’s Boost Mobile announced that its previously launched Data Boost plans have become permanent offerings, following up on the plan’s initial limited-time offering announced in September.

The plans begin at $35 per month and include unlimited domestic voice calling, text messaging, 1 gigabyte of high-speed data access and unlimited low-speed data access. For $10 more per month, customers receive 5 GB of high-speed data, or for $55 per month receive 10 GB of high-speed data.

The move comes as the prepaid mobile market continues to see increased competition from branded offerings like AT&T’s Cricket division and T-Mobile US.

• Regional operator U.S. Cellular recently launched its OnLook Digital System in a pair of markets, adding home automation and security services to its traditional telecom offerings. The service is initially available in parts of Iowa and in Tulsa, Okla.

The “self-installed home automation and security system” is powered by Alarm.com’s cloud-based software platform that allows users to manage the system via a smartphone, tablet or computer. The platform begins at $100 with a two-year monitoring contract.

• Red Bend Software announced plans to participate in AT&T’s upcoming Developer Summit scheduled to take place Jan. 5, and in connection with the CES 2015 event. Red Bend, which provides mobile software management solutions, plans to show off its wares with partners, including Garmin, Genivi and Visteon.
