TM Forum DD: HP expands NFV support

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Hewlett-Packard continues to push into the network function virtualization space, announcing new features of its HP OneNFV Program it said targets telecommunication providers. The new capabilities include NFV Director 2.0, virtualized mobile core, HP API Management and HP Multimedia Services Environment WebRTC Gateway Controller.

The NFV Director 2.0 service is said to combine HP’s operations support systems and information technology management service to support mutlivendor NFV orchestration, which is designed to help telecom providers wade through evolving virtualized environments. HP said the service also now supports its Helion OpenStack technology.

HP’s virtualized mobile core solution provides carriers with the option of choosing HP’s infrastructure, orchestration and VHSS components or open, third-party components to power an end-to-end “virtualized” network function solution. The offering is targeted at providing a low cost of entry for new entrants into the various mobile communication segments.

HP also said that its API Management and Multimedia Services Environment WebRTC Gateway Controller will now be offered as VNF, which is designed to accelerate their deployment.

Deployment plans include the immediate availability of the NFV Director, virtualized mobile core and WebRTC Gateway Controller, with the API Management product scheduled to be available next year.

HP earlier this year announced plans to invest $1 billion in software-based solutions, with a focus on OpenStack.

The investment is being used to bolster the company’s Helion platform, as well as its push into NFV that was announced at the 2014 Mobile World Congress.
