  • Japan’s NTT DoCoMo is promoting the speed of its LTE network by frying shrimp. The video advertisement shows shrimp flying through cannons and open flames. The shrimp is “cooked” in 3 seconds. The cooking demonstration and advertisement has become somewhat of a viral sensation.

SK Telecom has developed two core technologies for ‘5G’

  • One of the company’s technologies called “orchestration,” was designed to help engineers develop mobile services on a cloud network. The technology supports LTE on virtualized networks. The other technology, “cloud virtualized radio access network,” will be used to build base stations for the “5G” network through cloud computing technology.

Bharti Airtel is making price cuts to 4G

  • The company announced that it’s cutting prices for 4G below 3G prices. This is a move to prepare for the launch of 4G by competitor, Reliance Jio Infocomm. Reliance will be in direct competition in Bengaluru and Pune where Bharti Airtel operates 4G services

Hutchison Whampoa considers bid for EE or O2

  • Both EE and O2 are already in talks with BT for a possible sale. Hutchison Whampoa could bid on either company by the end of the year, and BT is expected to make an offer in the coming weeks. Reuters reports that BT is considering whether to spend more money to buy EE, Britain’s largest operator, or buy O2, the No. 2 operator and easier choice.

Vodafone considers bid for cable group

  • Vodafone is reportedly considering a bid for the cable group Liberty Global. It has been reported the mobile operator already approached Liberty earlier this year, but found price expectations too high. Liberty is Europe’s largest cable provider and is worth a reported $90 billion.
