Telecom Analytics: RCR TV on telco CIO challenges; VPISystems launches mobile policies

VPISystems launched a policy analytics offering dubbed OnePlan Policy Analytics, which promises to enable mobile operators to create policies that reflect their subscribers’ behavior, preferences and network conditions. It also touches the modeling and analyzing network requirements for new business opportunities and promotions by exploiting the existing policy charging and rules function (PCRF) event records or logs.

In a statement, Tito Sharma, president and CEO of VPIsystems, noted that as the telecom market today continues to roll-out LTE services, it is marked by intense competition and constant change. Therefore, “operators have to adapt quickly to new business models, technological advances and rapidly evolving subscriber demands.”

SAP enhancement in big data — SAP announced an evolved big data strategy and vision as it partners with Intel and Hortonworks to redistribute Hadoop. The German company has expanded its big data offerings around three major pillars: the SAP HANA platform; applications enabled for big data; and data science. SAP has also announced new re-seller agreements expand existing partnerships with both vendors.

SAP also announced a new big data-enabled application for manufacturers and has created a new data science organization to better help customers uncover relevant signals within their data.

Rising investment — Vantage Partners recently conducted a survey of Fortune 1000 C-suite executives and executives with responsibility for big data. If, last year, just over one-third of respondents reported big data investments of $1 million or more, this year, that proportion has grown to 68% with 88% reporting that their organization plans to spend greater than $1 million on big data initiatives by 2016.

The survey also noted that 19% of respondents report that investments in big data will exceed $10 million in 2013, rising to 50% by 2016. Of the organizations that have already tested the big data waters, 32% of executives reported that their big data initiatives are fully operational, in production or have been operationalized across the corporation.
