PCIA moves 2014 trade show to spring

The game of musical chairs among trade shows continued today as PCIA announced it was moving its annual get together from its traditional fall date to the spring for next year. This year’s PCIA event is scheduled for Oct. 7-10 in Hollywood, Fla., while the 2014 event will take place May 19-22 in Orlando, Fla.

The trade association, which focuses on the wireless infrastructure market, noted the move will provide it with some “distance” from the now crowded fall timeframe.

“Our commitment has always been to provide the highest quality experience to our attendees, exhibitors and sponsors,” said Tim House, VP of external relations for PCIA. “The spring time frame provides distance from multiple fall industry events, offering attendees and exhibitors a unique opportunity to learn from each other and conduct business in an uncluttered environment.”

The Competitive Carriers Association looks set to continue with its two-show strategy, having already hosted its “spring” event last month in New Orleans, and has its fall show scheduled for Sept. 15-18 in Las Vegas. For 2014, CCA has its spring event scheduled for March 25-27 in San Antonio, while its fall event is scheduled for Sept. 8-10 in Las Vegas.

Those “fall industry events” include a new unified trade show from CTIA, which earlier this year announced it was combining its long-running two events into one show next year that will run Sept. 9-11 in Las Vegas. CTIA’s two events this year run May 21-23, and its MobileCon event Oct. 15-18. CTIA noted that for this year it moved its spring event from its traditional late March/early April date to May in order to gain some distance from other events.

The early season, wireless tradeshow market has traditionally been dominated by the Consumer Electronics Show in early January that has increasingly become a showcase for the latest mobile devices, and the Mobile World Congress event help in Europe in mid-February.
