Telecom Analytics: Real-time analytics; Nice launches new platform; IBM buys UrbanCode

Many telecom operators around the world understand they have to optimize their network traffic and delivery, so they can better capitalize  on existing traffic. Optimizing video is one great example, said Jonathon Gordon, Allot Communications director of marketing in a video interview with RCR Wireless News.

Carriers need to collect as much information as they can to make correct decisions, Gordon said. “Analytics has been around for a long time,” Gordon said. “But the key to what we are seeing operators request today is analytics that is actionable in real-time. They need to make decisions in real-time that affect network traffic and the customer experience in real-time.”

Allot Communications recently secured a $6.5 million order from a tier-one mobile operator in the EMEA region for intelligent steering and value-added service licenses. In the video interview, Gordon provides further details about the agreement.

The analytics market is expected to become more relevant not only to the telecom industry but also to the enterprise market in general. IDC’s latest report on the worldwide software market found that big data, analytics and cloud computing are driving enterprise software growth.

Globally, the software market grew 3.6% in 2012 year over year, reaching a total market size of $342 billion, in line with IDC’s previous forecast of 3.4% and less than half the growth rate experienced in 2010 and 2011.

Many vendors are eyeing this potential market. For example, the software solution provider Nice Systems launched a customer engagement analytics platform that combines interaction and transaction analytics. Nice claims its platform will allow organizations to capture and analyze big data generated by cross-channel customer engagement as well as map the entire customer journey.

Acquisition: Looking at the demand driven by mobile, social, big data and cloud technologies, IBM purchased Cleveland-based UrbanCode. IBM said it expects to enhance its MobileFirst initiative that combines security, analytics and app development software. UrbanCode automates the delivery of software, helping businesses quickly release and update mobile, social, big data and cloud applications.

Funding: The big data analytics solutions provider Guavus raised an additional $9 million in funding from new investors Goldman Sachs and TransLink Capital. With this addition, Guavus’ total funding comes to $87 million. Guavus said the new funds will be used to continue expansion of its core products, scale operations and pursue select acquisitions in support of increasing global demand for its big data analytics solutions.

New solution: SAP released a mobile analytics rapid deployment solution that promises to simplify access to analytics on mobile devices, enabling enterprise customers to put real-time insight in the hands of their employees. It can also sync with the SAP HANA platform and SAP BusinessObjects business intelligence solutions, or populate pre-existing mobile apps with data analytics.

Survey: According to a new market research report published by MarketsandMarkets, the total customer experience management and voice of customer analytics market is expected to reach $6.61 billion by 2017 with a CAGR of 19.8%.
