China Telecom, China ComService unveil Latin America expansion plans

China Telecom do Brazil, which is directly managed by China Telecom Americas, announced the introduction of their data services product portfolio that includes international private leased circuits, IP access, IP VPN and fully managed data services. The company said it plans to introduce Internet data center and cloud computing services in the future.

The announcement was made by China Telecom and China ComService during a corporate seminar and opening ceremony held in Sao Paulo, where the firms unveiled their expansion plans for Latin America. The companies said they are collaborating “to better serve the needs of global enterprises and carriers in Brazil and across the rest of Latin America.”

Related to China Communications Services do Brazil operations, the companies said they will provide integrated solutions, which includes telecommunications infrastructure services (including design, construction and project supervision and management), business process outsourcing services (including maintenance, distribution of telecommunications services and products, and facilities management), and applications, content and other IT outsourcing services (including IT applications, Internet services and voice value added services).

Last September, Brazil’s national telecommunications agency Anatel authorized China Telecom to provide multimedia communications services. The license was approved by the agency’s board of directors at a meeting on Sept. 1, and according to the rules China Telecom had 18 months from that date to start operations in Brazil.

The newly established subsidiaries – China Telecom do Brazil and China Communications Services do Brazil – will be headquartered in Sao Paulo, and are the respective overseas branches of each company responsible for the growth and development of the business in the region.

China Telecom do Brazil is also planning to provide voice wholesale services for communications between Brazil and Asia-Pacific regions including China. The data and voice services focus on Brazilian-based multinational companies, organizations and international carriers and China-based multinational enterprises to connect Brazil and China as well as other Asia-Pacific countries.

The company noted that since it has obtained licenses it has invested millions of dollars to complete the construction of the Sao Paulo point-of-presence and the international network that connects to the North American global backbone network, which establishes a direct network link from South America to China.

During the second half of the year China Telecom do Brazil plans to build the second network PoP in Brazil designed to increase network capacity and reliability.

In a statement, Donald Tan, president of China Telecom Americas, noted that “Brazilian companies have a growing demand to invest and establish their operations in the China market. Many companies are actively seeking an experienced partner to help them develop and deploy a business plan for success in China.”

Brazil is set to become the hub of Latin America operations. China Telecom do Brazil will also partner with the local Brazilian and Latin American telecom operators to extend coverage of networks and services.
