Mobile data increase to boost Syniverse’s business in Latin America

With the increase of mobile data subscribers in emerging market, a growing number of telecom operators are seeking inform customers about their usage levels. Executives from Syniverse Technologies are looking at Latin America as a great market for this service.

“Brazil is a key area mostly for the next two to three years due to the major events,” Syniverse SVP John Wick told RCR Wireless News. He believes that the upcoming World Cup and Olympic Games will have a huge impact on the telecommunications sector in Brazil, since the consumption of data is expected to increase dramatically.

The U.S.-based enterprise said it has closed a contract with Brazilian operator Vivo, Telefónica’s mobile brand, to use its real-time usage alert service named RoamMonitor as part of carrier’s strategy to avoid bill shock and improve the user experience.

Wick noted that with real-time alerting operators can empower their subscribers, contributing to increased data consumption. In his opinion, carriers want their customers to have the best experience possible by communicating with them directly and avoiding any surprises.

“Vivo was able to recover the project’s investments in four months,” said Wick. He did not disclose any other clients.

Regarding other Latin America’s countries, Wick cited Argentina as a country where Syniverse is very active. However, he did not share any specific number about growth expectation.
