Telecom chiefs meet Kapil Sibal; discuss spectrum pricing

Top executives of India’s telecom companies Tuesday met the country’s Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal to discuss contentious issues plaguing the sector.

This was the second meeting of executives with Sibal wherein they discussed issues like allocation and pricing of spectrum. The National Telecom Policy 2011 was also discussed during the meeting.

“All the operators conveyed their views on various issues which are also a part of regulator TRAI’s (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) recommendations on ‘Spectrum Pricing and Framework’ The Minister will take a final call on telecom commission’s suggestions soon,” R. Chandrasekhar, Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications, was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India.

The executives who met the telecom minister included Bharti Airtel’s Sunil Bharti Mittal and Sanjay Kapoor, Reliance Communication’s Anil Ambani, Vodafone India’s Marten Pieters and Idea Cellular’s Himanshu Kapania.
