Macheen grows advisory board, adds marketing VP

Macheen Inc.Austin-based Macheen Inc., announced that the company formed an advisory board and now has a VP of marketing in Kent Libby.

While often quiet about the company’s business plans, CEO Richard Schwartz spoke with RCR Wireless at CTIA in Orlando in March, expanding on Macheen’s service platform for retailers and manufacturers which allows them to connect to the Internet through tablets, laptops, and other mobile devices.

The service allows consumers to have pre-connected mobile devices that don’t need a service provider or a contract to operate.

As new VP of marketing, Libby will work out of a Silicon Valley office to create partnerships and expand Macheen’s presence in California. Libby was recently co-founder and CEO of Sharegrove, which Facebook Inc. bought last year.

The new advisory board for Macheen includes Carmel Sofer and Daniel Carmel was an executive at Comverse and founder of Starhome. Shader, founder and CEO of PayNearMe, previously worked for Netscape, Good Technology Inc., Amazon Inc., and Jasper Wireless Inc.

Macheen announced a profitable collaboration with Dell Inc. earlier this year to connect their devices with mobile broadband known as Dell NetReady and a recent business relationship with Sprint Nextel. Macheen’s offices in Germany pursue other business ventures in Europe.

Macheen investors include Houston-based DFJ Mercury and managing director Ned Hill, former Dell executive Tom Meredith, and former Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) executive Mike Maples.
