Simon & Schuster inks deal for books on cellphones: Macmillan Publishing Solutions’ MPS Mobile to get best sellers

Simon & Schuster unveiled a deal to make more than 500 of its titles available through the Macmillan Publishing Solutions’ MPS Mobile.
The effort launched with books such as the best-seller “The Secret” as well as titles from the “Star Trek” line; additional offerings will include works from Ernest Hemingway and series including “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and the Nancy Drew line. Mobile users can text title names to the short code 22646 to receive a direct link to the content or can visit the mobile site, wap.global-reader.com, on their phones.
Simon & Schuster’s full eBook catalog will be available to wireless users in the coming months, the companies said. The titles will be available through MPS’ Global Reader service, which is available through dozens of carriers in more than 160 countries.
“With over 3.3 billion Internet-enabled mobile devices in existence worldwide, the potential market for mobile reading is enormous,” said Douglas Stambaugh, an executive with Simon &Schuster Digital. “This represents another great opportunity for us to bring our authors’ works to a platform consumers are increasingly using to get information and entertainment.”
