Wayport aims free Wi-Fi at Nintendo DS players

REDMOND, Wash.-Hot-spot aggregator Wayport is teaming with Nintendo to provide free Wi-Fi service to Nintendo DS users at 6,000 U.S. McDonald’s restaurants.

Wayport will power complimentary access to Nintendo’s Wi-Fi Connection, a wireless gaming community scheduled to go online Nov. 14. The offering will allow players at the locations to compete against each other in games such as Mario Kart DS and Tony Hawk’s American SK8Land.

“This agreement with Wayport will bring countless people together to play games in a single, simultaneous wireless community,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Nintendo of America. “Beginning with free access at participating McDonald’s, we have removed one of the major barriers that have kept people from going online to play games.”
