Mitsubishi to integrate voice activation in Trium phones

NEW YORK-Mitsubishi Electric Telecom Europe, the sixth-largest handset maker, this month will introduce its new Trium series of mobile phones, incorporating into two models with voice-activated dialing software developed by Advanced Recognition Technologies (ART).

The agreement calls for integration of smARTspeak and smARTspeak CS speech recognition solutions, which function with high levels of background noise, into the Eclipse and Sirius model handsets.

SmARTspeak lets callers automatically dial anyone listed in the handset’s phone book by saying the person’s name. The CS version enables callers to use continuous speech, without pauses, to dial a phone number by dictating its digits.

“We are confident the addition of ART’s innovative and powerful speech recognizers will further improve our competitive edge,” said Viet Mailam, vice president and director of research and development for Mitsubishi Electric Telecom Europe.
